One topic that stood out to me in Chapter 7 was international expansion and how companies can use it to grow. Ulta Beauty is a good example because the company has recently expanded beyond the United States into markets such as Mexico and the Middle East. Ulta also acquired Space NK, a beauty retailer in the United Kingdom and Ireland. These decisions let Ulta reach new customers and create additional revenue opportunities instead of relying only on the U.S. market.
Another concept that connects to Ulta is the importance of adapting to local markets. Although beauty products are popular worldwide, customer preferences don’t necessarily align everywhere. For example, certain skincare products, makeup shades, and beauty brands may be more popular in one country than another. Ulta has already shown this by including local beauty brands in its international stores while still offering products customers associate with the company.
I think Ulta’s approach to international expansion makes sense because the company is entering new markets through partnerships with businesses that already understand those regions. This can reduce some of the risks of operating internationally. However, Ulta still has to consider differences in consumer spending, competition, and operating costs. I believe the company’s long-term international success will depend on its ability to maintain the shopping experience that made it successful in the United States while adapting to customers’ needs in different countries.
